The conflict in the Middle East is entering a new phase as the United States and Iran attack social infrastructure, including bridges, airports, and power plants, beyond military facilities. On the 17th, the US conducted airstrikes on bridges and airports in southern Iran, while Iran retaliated by attacking Kuwait's power and desalination facilities. As both sides expand their attacks to civilian infrastructure, tensions are escalating. The US Central Command reported that it targeted coastal surveillance facilities, air defense systems, and logistical support infrastructure. Iranian state media reported that at least five bridges were attacked, and at least seven people were killed in Bandar Khamir. Iran announced retaliatory strikes aimed at US bases in the Gulf region, claiming to have attacked US military bases in Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain. The Kuwaiti government confirmed that power and desalination facilities were attacked, causing fires. The clashes between the two countries are also continuing in the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran suggesting that if US attacks persist, Houthi rebels may block the entrance to the Red Sea. International oil prices rose, with Brent crude increasing by about 2% to reach $86 per barrel.
